Academy
Proudly Established in 1980

banner

Calvary Christian Academy, an entity of Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church, began operations in 1980 as a Nursery through Kindergarten program. In 1991, the church moved to 610 Rhode Island Avenue, NE. Bishop Alfred Owens, Jr. founded the elementary school in 1992, starting with a class of only 10 first grade students.

Previously a teacher in DC Public School System, Bishop Owens became the first grade teacher. Calvary Christian Academy Elementary School was established in 1992 to assist parents in the "whole" spiritual, social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development of their children. The aim of our teachers is to motivate and compel students to become creative thinkers. We, the faculty and administration, interact with them in such a way that learning becomes fun and activities become an intricate part of their mental, emotional, and physical growth. Our vision is to instill Christian values, social morals, good character, and a comprehensive educational curriculum. Our school has grown tremendously since 1992. The current enrollment is approximately 200 students.

Philosophy Of Education
The philosophy of education of Calvary Christian Academy is to demonstrate obedience to the Word of God by educating children. Our teaching aim is to motivate and impel students into creative thinking. The faculty and administration interact with children in such a way that learning becomes fun and activities become an integral part of their mental, emotional, and physical growth. We also provide a quality Christian education for children whose parents have come to realize that they have a parental responsibility before God.

Statement of purpose
The primary purpose of Calvary Christian Academy
is to use a holistic approach to teaching its students. The Academy assist parents in the spiritual, social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development of their child(ren). The philosophy is to motivate and impel students into becoming creative thinkers. The Academy provides a quality Christian education for children whose parents have come to realize that their parental responsibility before God is to:

“Train up a child in the way he should go…” (Proverbs 22:6)

“…love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children…” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7)

“…learn not the way of the heathen…” (Jeremiah 10:2)

“For no other foundation can one lay that which is (already) laid, which is Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One.” (1 Corinthians 3:11)
